Never!

I don’t know how many of you are collectors, but if you’ve even seen a vintage pattern, it’s always amazing how well they hold up and the kind of care was shown to a pattern that had to last long enugh to make multiple outfits from.

the last thing I’d do is put a pin into that paper – To pin a vintage pattern to fabric is the first step in the destruction of that pattern.

I use pattern weights and I love them!

what  you do is use the weights to hold your pattern down, then you trace around it. for those times when the fabric is folded in double, I pin the fabric together just away from the pattern. this way both pieces come out right but still no pin holes in the pattern.

while pattern weights can get pricye – you’ll need a bunch – just think of what you spent on your most expensive pattern. plus the weights you keep.

i buy mine from Joann’s when i have a coupon to cut the price, but i also recommend Create for Less as a source for Dritz Pattern Weights.
